Tass checks her fridge early in the afternoon on a quiet Sunday. She is running low on eggs and milk. She grabs the key to her studio apartment and puts her boots on. Tass exits her dingy home. The elevator clunks and shakes violently even though it only has to go down four floors before letting out an exhausting ding. While walking towards the exit of her building, she dawns her black ten gallon hat over her red hair, black enough to match her black homemade, frilly dress. Her black cowgirl boots clack as she goes through the door and feels the fresh air and sunlight. She smiles. Her smile contrasts her black clothing and usually dark aura. Normally she tries to look as unapproachable as possible, both in fashion, and through behaviors such as facial expression. She doesn’t like sharing joy with others, as being outwardly joyful seems to attract unwanted attention. However, this evening something in the air feels so fresh and new, so full of energy, and she can’t help but smile. Her smile exposes the fact that she chipped one of he canine teeth. A fairy in the distance tips gasps and flies away unnoticed, remembering what she just witnessed.

Tass walks through the automatic sliding doors at the convenience store and walks straight to the milk and produce. She picks up a half gallon of milk and a dozen eggs. The cashier does not say anything, but his eyeballs point to the total on the screen of the cash register. Tass pulls out some paper money and her coin purse. She hands the cashier exactly the right amount, but is out of bills now. Being a Sunday, she get probably get two or three customers at the diner tonight, and its fifty fifty if they tip. She has to be mindful of when rent is coming up and how much cash she has, sometimes its necessary to pick up extra shifts before rent or bills are due. While counting numbers in her head she hears a screeching sound to her left.

She is astonished to see what looks like a small black bird repeatedly flying at a possum. The black bird sends out a beam of energy with a twinkle sound and sparkling dust falls from its feathers. Tass hides behind a nearby trashcan. Wait… is that a fairy!? She peeks around the corner again at the black bird, that turns out to clearly be a fairy in black cowgirl boots and hat and a cute dress. Tass gasps.

“Oh my god she is so pretty I want that dress so bad!” is the first thing Tass thinks to herself. “Wait is that a fucking fairy?!” There is no way there is a fairy in the alleyway of this town. Fairies are not real. She peeks around the garbage pail once more. Its definitely a fairy, and the fairy hits the possum back, seeming to gain an upper hand. Something more dark and mysterious seems to lie behind the possum, who stand back up proudly. Shadows move behind the possum. The fairy seems to stumble in the air before quickly retreating flying quickly through the air straight towards Tass. One moment Tass is blinded by the snow white skin of the fairy flying right towards her who still hasn't noticed her. In the last moment, the fairy looks in front of her and gasps she is flying straight into a human face! She tries to tumble in the air to avoid Tass. The fairy bumps Tass’s neck. Tass feels a slight sting., The fairy flies into the afternoon sun.

“Hey! Are you okay?” Says the possum.

Tass runs away as fast as she can. She flies. She figures its the adrenaline. While struggling to unlock the door to her apartment, the whole run home already seems like a blur in her memory. Thankfully she still has the milk and eggs clutched in her hands.
